Five
Giants of Advertising by Philippe Lorin (Assouline)
This handsomely produced large format coffee-table tome from art book publishers Assouline traces the history of five of the advertising industry's most influential figures: Leo Burnett and David Ogilvy, whose names live on in agencies today; Albert Lasker, widely considered the founder of the modern industry, who created the agency known today as FCB; Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet of Publicis; and copywriter extraordinaire Bill Bernbach, perhaps the most influential of modern advertising men for the work produced by DDB in the 1960s and 1970s. The book provides a vivid, chatty account of each man's rise through the business and assesses their contribution to the modern industry. Added 16th March 2006 |
