Arla Foods (Denmark)

Arla Foods is one of the world's largest and fastest-growing dairy companies, developing a widening international footprint through the acquisition of local competitors. Headquartered in Denmark, it is already the market leader in the UK, where it acquired the former Express Dairies business in 2003. A merger with Milk Link in 2012 made it the country's biggest dairy processor, and a similar substantial merger was negotiated in Germany. The group has also established a presence in markets as diverse as the US, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and China. For now, however, Europe is its main sphere of activity. Arla remains a cooperative organisation, jointly owned by its dairy farmer members. Its international brands include Lurpak butter, and a variety of cheeses including Castello, Apetina and Buko. Other UK brands include Cravendale milk and Anchor butter.
