success with its first mobile service Orange, Hutchison
was hoping for a
second bite with 3. But in a market suffering from fierce competition and substantial corporate debt,
the service was initially plagued by technical problems and a shortage of handsets,
falling well
behind its original sales
targets. Even so, Hutchison Whampoa has deep pockets and vowed to ride out
the storm. Performance has improved considerably since 2004. Advertising
