Japanese giant Mizuho
Financial Group is one of the world's biggest financial services organisation
by assets. For several years it was the global #1, until overtaken by Citigroup.
Like other Japanese banks, it struggled to cope with the
shakeout from the economic collapse which hammered Asia in the early 2000s. A
further set of challenges emerged from the global financial crisis of 2008 in
which Mizuho emerged as the biggest loser among leading Japanese banks. Although
the group's main market by far is
Japan, it is also active across the rest of Asia, especially in China, and is an
important force in North America and Europe, mostly on behalf of Japanese
clients. Click
