Ericsson (Sweden)

Ericsson has regained stability after several years of painful restructuring. It is one of the world's two biggest suppliers of mobile phone networks, and the leader in mobile managed services. Like its Finnish arch-rival Nokia, Ericsson had grown rapidly by exploiting the massive explosion of wireless communications worldwide, becoming the leader in networks and #3 in handsets after Nokia and Motorola. At the height of the telecoms boom in the late 1990s, Ericsson was Sweden's biggest company by market capitalisation, but economic downturn led to a series of financial woes. It spun off its loss-making mobile handsets division in 2001 into the Sony Ericsson joint venture, and has steadily regained focus through extensive restructuring. The group operates in 175 countries and generates more than 95% of its sales outside Sweden.
