The Carphone Warehouse (UK)

The Carphone Warehouse is Europe's leading independent retailer of mobile phones and services, with over 2,400 stores in nine countries. Outlets outside the UK and Ireland currently trade as Phone House. The group has expanded rapidly since the early 2000s, developing telecom and broadband services in several of its major markets. In the UK in particular it has become a significant rival to local leader BT, and it also has an important presence in Spain and France. Telecoms services have become a key focus for future development. To strengthen its retail operations, in 2008 the company sold a 50% stake in its European retail network to US electronics giant Best Buy. The partners plan to launch a chain of large consumer electronics stores under the Best Buy Europe brand during 2009.
