Since the 1980s Cable & Wireless has repeatedly reinvented itself in a bid to corner different niches of the telecoms market. So far, however, each attempt has been doomed to failure. Most recently the group made a disastrous decision to bet the house on online services, selling off viable mobile and cable businesses to fund the acquisition of a string of over-priced internet providers.
