Liz Claiborne (US)

Liz Claiborne ranks as America's most successful female fashion designer to-date, and her label is still among the country's best-selling casual clothing brands. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, the company assembled a substantial portfolio of other labels, becoming one of the world's largest producers of multi-brand casual apparel, accessories, jewellery and cosmetics. However the rapid contraction of its traditional retail channel of department stores after 2000 led to a steady decline in sales. As a result, the group embarked upon a dramatic and sometimes difficult restructuring at the end of 2006. Over the next two years it gutted its portfolio, selling or closing more than half of its brand businesses to concentrate on a handful of key department store brands as well as a small collection of fast-growing speciality brands including Juicy Couture, Mexx and Lucky Brand. Other labels include Mac & Jac, Kensie, Dana Buchman and Monet jewellery.
