The US is the world's biggest and most sophisticated advertising market, and the one in which virtually all aspects of the modern marketing industry were conceived and developed. With estimated ad expenditure of almost $177bn in 2015, it is bigger than the next five countries combined. Inevitably, given its level of sophistication, its industry is divided up into numerous different disciplines. Most advertising agencies also offer a broad range of other "full service" marketing disciplines; others agencies specialise in one or two niche areas; for example healthcare or PR.
