Wyndham Worldwide is the largest hospitality franchise operator in the economy and midscale sectors. Created in 2006 from the break-up of diversified conglomerate Cendant, it franchises ten national and international chains, encompassing some 7,100 hotels around the globe, with a combined total of over 593,000 rooms. Brands include Wyndham Hotels, Ramada, Days Inn, Super 8, Travelodge and Howard Johnson. In each case, Wyndham Worldwide controls only the brandname. Individual properties are owned and operated under franchise by independent owners, while Wyndham is responsible for marketing and for managing the group's centralised reservation systems, as well as a shared loyalty scheme. The group is also extensively involved in development and marketing of timeshare condos, holiday parks and other vacation rentals. Stephen Holmes is group chairman & CEO.
