The local outpost of Leo Burnett is one of Australia's leading creative agencies, and in 2011 became the first Australian agency ever to feature among the Gunn Report's annual top ten of the world's most awarded advertising agencies. It was in the Top Ten again for 2016. The agency has a cupboard full of Agency of the Year accolades, most recently from Campaign Asia and Adnews Australia for 2015 as Australia Creative Agency of the Year. However, the Sydney agency also caused a storm of protest from some corners of the industry that year by appointing a new all-male creative team. Among other notable achievements, Leo Australia created the global Earth Hour initiative, on behalf of local client WWF. There are full-service offices in both Sydney and Melbourne. Leo Burnett Australia group chairman Todd Sampson resigned from the business in early 2017, followed by Sydney CEO Pete Bosilkovski in 2018. Melinda Geertz, previously LB Melbourne CEO is now regional CEO. Jason Williams is chief creative officer. Leo Burnett arrived in Australia for the first time in 1970 with the acquisition of Jackson Wain, then one of Australia's largest locally owned agencies, with its own subsidiary network in Asia. Adbrands Social Media 30th Jul 2018: Australian underwear icon Bonds continues to boldly go where few ads have gone before (with apologies to James T Kirk). Being owned by US giant Hanes has done nothing to curb the brand's more adventurous streak; this gorgeous new campaign from Leo Burnett features a tribe of Amazonian warrior women getting down to business in the bush, while also - nonchalantly, even - notching up another taboo-busting victory on behalf of feminine body hair.
Adbrands Social Media 19th Feb 2018: Ads of the Week: "Gotta Be Bonds". Leo Burnett turns up the heat down under (in several senses of the phrase) in this sexy, playful spot for Bonds, Australia's iconic underwear brand, now owned by its North American counterpart Hanes. Clearly, if you're planning to walk around in just your undies, these are the ones to do it in.
Adbrands Weekly Update 22nd Jul 2015: Ads of the Week: "Go With It". Another great campaign for Honda from Leo Burnett Australia, demonstrating the same sort of surreal inventiveness that distinguished the agency's last "Dreamy" spot. And how about that awesome final punchline? A showstopper, but delivered with such casual nonchalance. Excellent, confident work.
Adbrands Weekly Update 5th Feb 2015: Ads of the Week: "Dream Run". Hey! Not a Super Bowl ad! We're so over the Super Bowl now. Instead, here's a wonderful brain-twister of a spot from Leo Burnett Australia for Honda. We love ads like this, freaky ideas plus comedy plus big production values. They even got in some nice shots of the car.
