The local outpost of Saatchi & Saatchi is one of Australia's best-known creative agencies. In fact, trade magazine Creative Brief named it Australia's Agency of the Decade in 2009, the sort of accolade that's always guaranteed to prompt a subsequent decline in performance. So it was with Sydney-based Saatchi, whose stability slipped significantly over the following couple of years with the loss of several important accounts. A new management team was appointed at the end of 2011, led by Michael Rebelo, an Australian who had spent several years in the agency's London office. Gradually, Saatchi has regained much of its earlier poise. In 2015, the agency re-established a presence in Melbourne for the first time in over a decade; the following year it acquired widely respected local sales promotion agency MercerBell. There is also an office in Adelaide. In early 2017, Rebelo took on an additional role as CEO of Publicis Communications Australia & New Zealand, the umbrella for all the group's creative agencies in that region. He was succeeded as Saatchi Australia CEO by Anthony Gregorio, ex Havas. See also the Adbrands profile of the main Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide network. Adbrands Weekly Update 5th May 2016: Ads of the Week "Being A Kid Never Changes". Here's a lovely new campaign from Saatchi & Saatchi Australia for Mondelez' Natural Confectionery Company candy brand, drawing parallels between your own nostalgia-tinted childhood and that of your kids. Clearly some things never do actually change. The resulting ad will leave a warm glow in your heart and an irresistible urge in your brain to go out and buy jelly snakes and wine gums.
Adbrands Weekly Update 24th Mar 2016: Ads Of The Week: "Superheroes". Been there, done that, got the burnt feet. (Jeez, not even Superman goes around barefoot on a hot day at the beach!). Saatchi & Saatchi ride the wave of excitement over Warner's Batman vs Superman movie with this funny spot for Toyota Australia, which manages to trade off a bit of the hype without paying the license fee.
Adbrands Weekly Update 18th Feb 2016: Saatchi & Saatchi has acquired Australian sales promotion agency MercerBell. It is the network's first ever acquisition in Australia, and is designed to strengthen the agency's hold on the local Toyota account, for which MercerBell provides experiential support. Saatchi shares the Toyota Australia creative account with Dentsu Aegis network, which had also been circling MercerBell.
Adbrands Weekly Update 2nd Oct 2014: Ads of the Week: "Unbreakable Drivers". We return to the Saatchi network for this delightful comic spot from Saatchi Sydney for Toyota, which continues a long-running gag about how only tough guys are up to handling a Toyota Hilux truck. Here's how they find out whether you're tough enough. Great gags throughout. The beach car park test was our favourite. Pure genius.
Adbrands Weekly Update 24th July 2014: Ads of the Week: "Dad To The Bone". An entertaining diversion from Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney, designed to demonstrate that the new Toyota Camry passenger car can transform even the meekest of dads into a one bad motherchuckler. Enjoyable fun.
