The local outpost of BBDO is one of Canada's leading creative agencies. The main agency is in Toronto, partnered by a second outpost in Quebec (formerly Nolin BBDO, now BBDO Montreal). BBDO Canada was Strategy magazine's Agency of the Year for both 2011 and 2012. However a string of senior executive departures in 2014 and 2015 was capped by the resignation of long-serving CEO Gerry Frascione to launch a new project of his own. He was succeeded by former Leo Burnett COO Dom Caruso, who restructured the team and folded the previously separate local office of Proximity back into the main agency. After five years of relative calm, there was another period of management upheaval in 2020 after Caruso announced plans to retire. He was succeeded as CEO by Christopher Andrews, but co-CCOs Denise Rossetto and Todd Mackie departed the agency to launch their own start-up, Broken Heart Love Affair. Max Geraldo was eventually appointed in 2021 as CCO. St John Walshe is CEO of BBDO Americas. BBDO's Canadian business was created from a series of acquisitions, including Baker Lovick and Canada's first advertising agency McKim, founded in 1899. Adbrands Weekly Update 22nd Nov 2018: Ads of the Week "Born To Move". Here's another respite from the Christmas deluge with this superb film for Bayer's footcare brand Dr Scholl's from BBDO Toronto. It's a fabulously simple concept but deceptively complicated to deliver, telling the tale of one woman's life (or perhaps two) from infancy to adulthood only by showing her feet. It's literally only feet, yet the two and a half day shoot involved 70 set-ups, eight lead females including four infants, six male cast and several extras. Fabulous work. Happy holidays!
Adbrands Weekly Update 16th Feb 2017: Ads of the Week: "Notes: A Life Story". Better get the tissues handy for this deeply moving emotional rollercoaster from BBDO Toronto for Take Note, a Canadian stationery retailer. It's a beautifully executed story, told entirely through handwritten notes. You know the thing: boy meets girl, boy wins girl etc etc. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll probably buy a better pen.
Adbrands Weekly Update 19th Mar 2015: There were musical chairs at two of Canada's top network agencies. Long-serving BBDO Canada CEO Gerry Frascione is leaving to pursue a new entrepreneurial start-up project. He has been replaced by Dom Caruso, a former leader of BBDO Canada who has spent the past four years as president & COO of Leo Burnett Canada alongside CEO Judy John. His duties at Burnett have been split between chief strategy officer Brent Nelsen and general manager David Kennedy.
