Lowe Roche Canada

The local outpost of Lowe & Partners, known as Lowe Roche, was one of Canada's most admired creative agencies throughout the 1990s, but finally closed its doors at the end of 2015 after a steady decline. The agency was founded in 1991 by celebrated Toronto-born creative director Geoffrey Roche, an alumnus of Chiat Day in Canada and the US and FCB Toronto. It was acquired by Lowe in 1996, winning numerous local Agency of the Year awards. After 2011 it was partnered by Francophone agency Atelier Amuse in Montreal, whose founder Monica Ruffo succeeded Roche as CEO of the combined Lowe Roche operation later the same year. She subsequently introduced full Francophone services into the main Toronto agency for the first time. Ruffo departed the agency abruptly in early 2015, followed by several other senior managers. The CEO title was dropped, and leadership was split between joint co-presidents Marie-Lise Campeau and Jeff Dack. However, a steady erosion of the business persuaded Interpublic to announce the closure of the agency later the same year. See also the Adbrands profile of the main MullenLowe Worldwide network. Adbrands Weekly Update 17th Sep 2015: Another bombshell hit the Canadian advertising industry this week, with news that Lowe Roche, a one-time local star fallen upon hard times, will close its doors by the end of the year. It is the third such seismic change in the country, following the merger of Y&R's local agency into sister shop Taxi, and a similar combination of TBWA Canada into Juniper park. In this case, though, the Lowe brand will exit the country altogether, with clients and staff reallocated to McCann, FCB and other IPG shops. Lowe Roche was named Canadian Agency of the Decade in 2000 by local trade paper Marketing, and Agency of the year again in 2008. However, performance has slumped dramatically since the departure of founder Geoffrey Roche in 2011.
