BBDO Japan is a key hub in the global BBDO Worldwide network, and the second-biggest non-Japanese-owned agency in that country (after McCann). Traditionally known as I&S BBDO, the business adopted the name BBDO Japan in 2015 after absorbing the local outpost of sister agency DDB, whose international clients it now represents in Japan. It also manages local representation for Omnicom's OMD and PHD media agencies. Japanese clients are still managed by a subsidiary I&S BBDO unit in Tokyo or BBDO J West in Fukuoka. Tony Harris is group CEO, leading a mostly Japanese team. I&S Corporation was originally formed from the merger of two local advertising and marketing agencies in 1987. BBDO acquired a minority stake a decade later, and renamed it I&S BBDO in 2002, later increasing its shareholding to majority control. Former controlling shareholders Yomiuri Shimbun and Nippon TV retained minority stakes, and are still among the agency's biggest local clients. Below-the-line arm I&S Communications was rebranded as NYX Partners in 2004, and subsequently became the Japanese arm of BBDO's Proximity marketing services network. It too was subsequently absorbed into the main BBDO Japan agency. Subscribers may access account assignments and contact information.
