McCann Japan is one of the two biggest Western-owned agencies in the country. The agency is headquartered in Tokyo but also operates a branch office in Osaka. It represents many of McCann's international clients, as well as healthy proportion of local accounts. Hiroaki Mori was named as president & CEO of the main McCann agency in 2017, reporting to regional Worldgroup CEO Charles Cadell. Other McCann Worldgroup businesses in Japan include local offices of Momentum, MRM and Weber Shandwick, as wellm as design agency Chasedesign. Healthcare agency Standard McIntyre was acquired in 1999 and rebranded as Torre Lazur McCann Japan, now McCann Healthcare Japan. In fact McCann Erickson was the first US network to dip a toe into Japanese waters, forming a joint venture in 1960 with Hakuhodo, then Japan's #1 agency. In 1994, the partnership with Hakuhodo was dissolved and McCann bought out its partner's equity to take full ownership, becoming the biggest foreign-owned marketing shop in the country, until overtaken by BBDO's acquisition of I&S.
