BAE Systems Applied Intelligence (UK)

BAE Systems Applied Intelligence is the digital consulting and services arm of global defence, aerospace and security giant BAE Systems, which also makes warships, submarines and combat vehicles as well weapons operating systems. It is primarily a technology services developer, offering sophisticated proprietary services for government and corporate clients worldwide. Key areas of interest are cyber security, financial crime and communications intelligence. However the company also offers a full range of what it calls "digital transformation" services including design, CRM, social media and ecommerce. The business was formed primarily from the acquisition of IT consultancy Detica in 2008. That company was founded in 1971 by radar and space exploration engineer Bruce Smith as Smith Associates, later Smith Group. It was primarily as a specialist in IT systems engineering for the defence industry. It adopted the Detica name in 2001. The Detica name was initially retained following its absorption into BAE until 2013, when BAE Systems Detica was merged into the existing Applied Intelligence cyber security unit. Out of total BAE revenues of almost £18bn in 2015, the Cyber & Intelligence division contributed £1.9bn, but only a very small part of that related to digital marketing. The US Government is the division's biggest customer by far. Kevin Taylor is managing director. Adbrands does not currently offer a business profile for Detica but subscribers may access account assignments and contact information. The searchable account assignments database is available to full subscribers to Adbrands.net premium services.
