Jaywing (UK)

The agency formerly known as We Are 20:20 and Digital Marketing Group has undergone several sweeping changes in recent years. A bold attempt to become the UK's biggest pure-play digital marketing agency through a string of acquisitions ended in comparative failure, prompting a corporate rebrand to Jaywing, previously its consultancy subsidiary. It still does web design, but is mostly known for data-based CRM, media and analytics. Although it retains a London office, the core of the company has retreated to its regional HQ in Sheffield. The group was formed in the mid 2000s from the acquisition and consolidation of numerous separate agencies including Dig For Fire, Cheeze, Hyperlaunch and Gasbox. Following the purchase of 20:20, it was restructured as two main operating units of DMG and 20:20, but these twin agencies were themselves merged under the 20:20 name in 2011. Although it was ranked as the UK's biggest digital agency in 2008 and 2009, it experienced tough trading in the latter year, causing a slump in revenues. CEO Ben Langdon resigned in 2011 and was eventually replaced by Martin Boddy. Rob Shaw is CEO UK & Australia. Revenues declined from highs of almost £57m in 2009 to £34m for the year to March 2014 before slowly recovering. For the year to 2016, the group reported revenues of £36m. The group acquired search marketing agency Epiphany in 2014, followed by Australian agency Digital Massive and Leeds-based Bloom in 2016. The company is publicly quoted in the UK. One of its biggest shareholders is political pollster and former Conservative Party chairman Lord Ashcroft.
