Ogilvy Health is one of the world's leading healthcare communications groups, but has been overtaken as the largest within the WPP portfolio by the healthcare satellites of Wunderman Thompson and VMLY&R. Advertising Age estimated revenues of $104m in 2019; MM&M estimated $150m. The business was formed in 2010 - originally as Ogilvy Commonhealth - from the merger of two separate networks already operating under the group umbrella: Ogilvy Healthworld and CommonHealth. Healthworld - originally Girgenti Hughes Butler & McDowell, and later a unit of Bates Worldwide - was inherited as part of WPP's acquisition of Cordiant. CommonHealth had started life as health marketing pioneer Thomas Ferguson Associates, before being acquired by WPP in 1983. The two businesses were merged in 2010 under a single senior management team. The family of numerous separately branded companies which had co-existed within CommonHealth for the most part adopted the parent brand following the merger, instead of retaining their own distinct identities such as Ferguson, Carbon or Altum. Nevertheless, the group continued to house separate units in the US specialising in different disciplines such as consumer care, medical marketing, medical education and analytics. In 2017, Ogilvy merged most of its separate marketing services satellites back into the main agency under a single management team. CommonHealth survived that initial restructuring, remaining a separate entity under the umbrella of newly created group umbrella WPP Health & Wellness, but shortening its name to Ogilvy Health and also streamlining its range of services. A second and wider restructuring in 2018 led to the elimination of WPP Health & Wellness and the merger of all the group's US-based healthcare agencies into their parent agencies, including CommonHealth into Ogilvy. However, international operations retain their separate status for the time being. Andrew Schirmer joined the network in 2018 from McCann Health as North America CEO, but departed the business after two years. Kate Cronin is now global CEO. Renata Florio is chief creative officer.
