WE Communications - previously Waggener Edstrom - is a privately owned global public relations firm founded by Melissa Waggener Zorkin and Pam Edstrom. Establised in 1984, the agency is best-known for its work for technology companies, especially founder client Microsoft, which until recently accounted for as much as two-thirds of fee income. Management changes at Microsoft have led to cuts in spend, forcing the agency to widen its scope, and it now covers most other communications sectors as well, including analyst relations, consumer marketing, public affairs and especially healthcare. The defection of several key managers also prompted a shake-up of leadership and the change of name to WE in 2015. The US is the agency's core market, accounting for as much as 80% of revenues, but it has a significant presence in key European markets and several leading Asia Pacific territories through 20 wholly-owned offices, and a network of affiliate agencies in many other countries. The group also operates a global cooperation alliance with other independently owned marketing services agencies including researcher YouGov, experiential specialst Envy and digital marketer GLG under the banner of Plus Network. Industry watcher The Holmes Report estimated fee income of $102m in 2016, down from past highs as a result of declines in North America. That places it just outside the Top 20 PR agencies globally. Melissa Waggener Zorkin remains CEO, but co-founder Pam Edstrom passed away in 2017. Alan Vandermolen was appointed as president, international in 2016.
