Wyndham Worldwide (US)


Wyndham Worldwide is the world's biggest leading hospitality franchise operator by properties, and a leader in the economy and midscale sectors. Created in 2006 from the break-up of diversified conglomerate Cendant, it franchises more than 20 national and international hotel chains, encompassing some 8,035 outlets around the globe, mostly in the economy or midscale segments, and a combined total of 698,000 rooms. Its two biggest brands are the Super 8 and Days Inn economy chains, with almost 4,600 hotels between them. Other brands include upscale Wyndham Hotels, Ramada, Travelodge North America and Howard Johnson. More recently the group has moved tentatively into the upper midscale segment with selected smaller acquisitions. In each case, Wyndham Worldwide controls only the brandname. Individual properties are owned and operated under franchise by independent owners, while Wyndham is responsible for marketing and for managing the group's centralised reservation systems, as well as a shared loyalty scheme. The group is also extensively involved in development and marketing of timeshare condos, holiday parks and vacation exchange rentals. Stephen Holmes is chairman & CEO. Geoff Ballotti is CEO of Wyndham Hotels Group. Revenues for 2016 were $5.6bn, of which only $1.3bn came from lodging and the rest from vacation rentals and development.
